I’m not really sore at all after yesterday’s 17. That usually happens to me and then I think, “Well if I can still walk, I probably could have pushed harder” I know for sure that is true about yesterday’s run. My whole body feels tired but I think that has more to do with the crappy day outside than the run. I’m glad I covered the whole distance despite having to stop towards the end to walk as my gas tank was just so empty. Having missed some critical weeks in the middle of training this was my longest weekend run by 5 miles. Hopefully 18 miles will go somewhat smoother. I have to relearn how to zone out on these runs and not think about how boring it is.
Sometimes I wish I was crazy enough to run the Leadville 100. Then I think about a few seconds longer and remember what Leadville is. Just thinking about any altitude makes my midwestern lungs burn. Maybe I should finish a 50 miler first before I think about doing any 100s….

What a coincidence that I read this quote the night before one of the most miserable, cold and tiring 17 mile runs to date. Thankfully Lauren was with me for the last 7 miles otherwise I probably would have stopped at 13. Although I did take a more than brief break at Loyola University in search of a place to refill my waterbottle. Facists, they didn’t have any fountains, or for my Wisconsin followers, Bubblers.
